Principles of Publishing Ethics
The Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, Pathology and Surgery (3DJ) is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in scholarly publishing. The journal adheres to the principles and guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
1. Authors and Authorship
- All listed authors must meet the ICMJE authorship criteria:
- substantial contributions to the conception, design, data collection, or analysis;
- drafting or critically revising the manuscript;
- final approval of the version to be published; and
- agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work.
- All authors must approve the submitted version of the manuscript.
- Individuals who contributed but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged.
- Submissions must be original and must not be under review elsewhere.
- Plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and duplicate publication are strictly prohibited.
- Proper citation of all sources is mandatory, and permissions must be obtained for reuse of content.
- All conflicts of interest and sources of funding must be fully disclosed.
2. Editors' Responsibilities
- Editors hold full editorial responsibility and independence.
- Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit, originality, clarity, and relevance.
- Editors must maintain confidentiality of all submissions and uphold impartiality throughout the review process.
- Manuscripts submitted by editors or board members must be reviewed independently.
- Editors are expected to follow COPE flowcharts when addressing ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct.
3. Peer Review Process
- The journal follows a double-blind peer review policy.
- Reviewers must keep all manuscript information confidential and disclose any conflicts of interest.
- Reviews must be objective, constructive, and based on scientific quality.
Reviewers must not use the content of submitted manuscripts for personal or professional benefit.
4. Ethical Research and Consent
- Studies involving human participants must follow the Declaration of Helsinki and be approved by an institutional ethics committee.
- Informed written consent must be obtained for all human subjects, including consent for publication of identifiable data or images.
- Animal studies must comply with institutional and international animal welfare guidelines.
- Ethical approval and registration numbers must be reported in the manuscript.
5. Research Misconduct
The journal defines misconduct as per the COPE and U.S. Office of Research Integrity guidelines, including:
- Fabrication: Making up data or results
- Falsification: Manipulating data or processes
- Plagiarism: Using others’ work without proper credit
Misconduct does not include honest errors or academic disagreement. All allegations are investigated thoroughly according to COPE procedures.
6. Retractions and Corrections
In cases of significant error or misconduct, the journal will issue retractions, corrections, or expressions of concern as needed. These actions follow COPE Retraction Guidelines and will be clearly identified in all versions of the article.
7. Editorial Independence and Transparency
- Editors make decisions without influence from sponsors, institutions, or commercial interests.
- All editorial board members must declare potential conflicts of interest.
- Journal income or funding has no bearing on editorial decisions.
8. Reader Rights and Research Integrity
- Readers are entitled to know the funding sources and the role of sponsors in the study.
- The journal ensures transparency, accurate authorship representation, and open access to scientific data when applicable.
Reports of negative or contradictory results are welcomed to promote scientific balance.
