Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, Pathology and Surgery (J3D) is the official quarterly publication of faculty of dentistry, Guilan University of Medical Sciences.

Submission of manuscript

All manuscripts should be submitted electronically through www.dentjour.gums.ac.ir in Journal of Dentomaxillofa­cial Radiology, Pathology and Surgery (J3D). In case of having any questions, you can contact us by den3djournal@gums.ac.ir and all correspondence will be organized by email.

Original articles, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, some rare case-reports, letter to editor and short communication will be considered for publication. All submitted manuscript must follow the journal style.

No commercial or product advertisement will be allowed in this journal.

Any elements of plagiarism, falsification and fabrication lead to refusal.

 

Preparation of manuscript

The article including all tables should be organized in Microsoft word document.The font size should be Times New Roman 12-point, double spaced and should not be scripted or italicized except for scientific names and terms in a different language. Bold print may be used for headings. Footnotes and text in tables should not be less than 8-point.

The following order is necessary for submission:

Title page

Title page should comprise:

Title of the article (only initials capitalized)

Running head of maximum 6 words

Full name of the authors (superscript)

Academic degrees and position

Institutional affiliations

Name of the corresponding author

Email address, telephone, and fax numbers

Key words

PARTS OF THE MANUSCRIPT

Manuscripts should be presented in the following order: (i) title page, (ii) abstract and key words, (iii) text,
(iv) acknowledgement, (v) references, (vi) appendices, (vii) figure legends, (viii) tables (each table complete with title and footnotes) and (ix) figures.
The paper should be typed double-spaced and four spaces between paragraphs and sections. The following, however, should be single-spaced:

i) explanatory footnotes (if absolutely necessary);
ii) quotations longer than three lines set in a block;
iii) references or bibliography (except between entries);
iv) multi-line captions (tables, figures);
v) appendices, such as questionnaires, letters; and
vi) headings and subheadings.

Footnotes to the text are not allowed and any such material should be incorporated into the text as parenthetical matter.
All pages should be numbered centrally at the bottom margin. Page numbered should appear on their own and not placed in brackets, hyphenated or accompanied by other decorative devices. Pages should be numbered consecutively throughout the paper, including pages for tables, figures and appendices. Each appendix should be identified separately using an uppercase letter beginning with A. The pages of the appendices should also be numbered accordingly.

Title page

The title page should contain (i) the title of the paper with the initial of the key words capitalized, should be short, informative and not abbreviated. A short running title (less than 40 characters) should also be provided.

(ii) the full names of the authors superscripted and (iii) Academic degrees, position, institutional affiliation and the name of the corresponding author (iv) the addresses of the institutions at which the work was carried out together with (v) the full postal and E-mail address, plus facsimile and telephone numbers, of the author to whom correspondence about the manuscript should be sent. The present address of any author, if different from that where the work was carried out, should be supplied in a footnote.

Abstract and key words

All articles must have a brief  abstract that states in no more than 250 words, the purpose, basic procedures, main findings and principal conclusions of the study. The abstract should not contain abbreviations or references.
Three to Five key words separated by bullets with small letters and bold, for the purposes of indexing, should be supplied below the abstract, in alphabetical order, and should be taken from those recommended by the US National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) browser list at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/meshhome.html


Text

Authors should use the following subheadings to divide the sections of their manuscript: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion. The introduction section is not provided in case reports. Considering the abundance of the figures in the case reports, the tables and figures should be submitted separately. There should be no space after the parenthesis. The routine lab test words could be used abbreviated.

 

Acknowledgements
The source of financial grants and other funding must be acknowledged, including a frank declaration of the authors' industrial links and affiliations. The contribution of colleagues or institutions should also be acknowledged. Personal thanks and thanks to anonymous reviewers are not appropriate.


References
The Vancouver system of referencing should be used (examples are given below). In the text, references should be cited with parentheses and should appear in front of the full point or comma at the end of the sentence/clauses should be superscript. References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. If cited in tables or figure legends, number according to the first identification of the table or figure in the text. We recommend the use of a tool such as Endnote or Reference Manager for reference management and formatting. In the reference list, cite the names of all authors when there are four or fewer; when five or more, list the first three followed by et al. Do not use ibid. or op cit. Reference to unpublished data and personal communications should not appear in the list but should be cited in the text only (e.g. Smith A, 2000, unpublished data). All citations mentioned in the text, tables or figures must be listed in the reference list.

Names of journals should be abbreviated in the style used in Index Medicus. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. References should be listed in the following form.

Tables
Tables should be self-contained and complement, but not duplicate, information contained in the text. Number the ta­bles consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals. They should not be 3-dimensional. Type the tables on a separate page with the legend above. Legends should be concise but comprehensive .The table, legend and footnotes must be under­standable without reference to the text. Vertical lines should not be used to separate columns. Column headings should be brief, with units of measurement in parentheses; all abbreviations must be defined in footnotes. Footnote symbols: †, ‡, §, ¶, should be used (in that order) and *, **, *** should be reserved for P-values. Statistical measures such as SD or SEM should be identified in the headings.


Figures

All illustrations (line drawings and photographs) are classified as figures. Figures should be cited in consecutive order in the text.

If supplied electronically, figures must be supplied as high resolution (at least 300 dpi) files, saved as .JPG or.tif. Do not embed figures in the word document .They must be supplied in separate files. Line figures should be supplied as sharp, black and white graphs or diagrams, drawn professionally or with a computer graphics package. Lettering must be in­cluded and should be sized to be no larger than the journal text.

Magnifications should be indicated using a scale bar on the illustration.

Colour figure files should be set up as CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) and not as RGB (red, green, and blue) so that colours as they appear on screen will be a closer representation of how they will be printed in the Journal.


Figure legends

Type the figure legends on a separate page. Legends should be concise but comprehensive. The figure and its legend must be understandable without reference to the text. Include definitions of any symbols used and define/explain all abbreviations and units of measurement.
